Understanding Kathakali is not easy. Even those with years of experience watching it, find it difficult to learn the nuances at times. For one to enjoy the art form in its purest form, there is a need to update one’s knowledge.

The Kathakali appreciation workshop organised by Thodayam Kathakali Yogam in Kozhikode on Sunday was an attempt to acquaint seasoned Kathakali enthusiasts in the city with the nuances that would make their appreciation of the art form a bit easier. The workshop was organised in three sessions. The first session was an introduction to various ‘mudras’ through some well-known plots. Noted artist Peeshappalli Rajeevan spoke about the development of Kathakali and later demonstrated the mudras.
