A jumbo truce, after 13 hours

September 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Kozhikode:

After a 13-hour-long effort, a captive elephant that went berserk on Thursday night was tamed by its mahout at Naduvannur on Friday.

According to officials, elephant Dhananjayan, owned by Suni Balussery, ran amok around 7 p.m. on Thursday while the mahout was trying to chain it. “As the elephant moved into a nearby river, the taming attempt proved futile,” they said.

Police officials from the Balussery station said the local people who gathered at the spot with powerful flashlights provoked the elephant and made it run away. “As the elephant accidentally got trapped in the river, the mahout managed to bring it out and chain safely by 8.30 a.m.,” the police said.
