A green brigade will be in place at booths today

May 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Kozhikode:

For the first time in the State, the Assembly election will be the occasion to spread a green message. The State Suchitwa Mission is in charge of the Green Protocol being implemented in all polling booths during polling on Monday.

“It is not that the polling process will produce a large amount of waste, but everyone who turns up for polling will take home the green message with them,” said Programme Officer of District Suchitwa Mission Kripa Warrier.

The District Suchitwa Mission has been successfully implementing the Green Protocol in major events such as the National Games, National School Athletics Meet, Global Ayurveda Festival, and various youth festivals. In fact, the Mission had been honoured for its exemplary service after the National Games, where ‘Kakkakkoottam’, a black brigade of dedicated volunteers, kept the venues clean.

“The food packets are the major problem. We have instructed the Returning Officers to reduce waste during the polls. They will not bring disposable food packets to booths,” Ms. Kripa said. The major aim of the Mission is to create awareness on keeping the premises clean.

It is just a food for thought. Our aim is to make Keralites think about cleanliness,” Ms. Kripa said.
