Fake currency notes worth Rs. 1.50 lakh, 30 rounds of AK-47 bullets, explosive substance were seized from Zahid Hussain

A day after a suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Zahid Hussain (57), who is allegedly involved in the German Bakery blast case , was arrested, a city court has remanded him in police custody till July 16. Mr. Hussain was arrested by personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) late on Wednesday night, police said.

Public prosecutor Deep Narayan told reporters, “The police have seized Rs. 1.50 lakh of fake currency notes, 30 rounds of AK-47 bullets, and a considerable amount of explosive substance from Mr. Hussain.”

Mr. Narayan said,“Mr. Hussain worked as a linkman and gave logistical support to other IM operatives.” Mr. Narayan also said that Mr. Hussain is reportedly a Bangladeshi national and entered India through Petrapole border.

He has been charged under several sections of the IPC which include section 25(1A) of the Arms Act and 25 A of the Foreigners Act.

Earlier, the police said that they would appeal for Mr. Hussain’s custody for ‘further interrogation’. Mr. Hussain’s lawyers, could not be reached for comments.

According to police sources, Mr. Hussain is associated with IM co-founder and alleged mastermind of several bomb blasts Yasin Bhatkal and reportedly was in charge of an IM unit in Bihar. Mr. Bhatkal was arrested from India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Raxaul town in August last year.
