Work on two grade separators on Anna Salai is expected to begin by the end of August.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority on Friday decided to allocate Rs.385 crore, collected under the infrastructure and amenities charges in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, for the construction of the grade separators, which have been proposed to ease traffic congestion on the arterial road.

Minister for Information and Chairman of CMDA Parithi Ellamvazhuthi at a meeting on Friday proposed to avail the infrastructure and amenities fund for the construction of the separators by the Highways Department.

One of the grade separators at an estimated cost of Rs.161 crore and spanning a length of 1.9 km would be from P.Orr & Sons showroom, opposite the new Assembly complex, to Popat Jamal, opposite Spencer Plaza. The other grade separator, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.339 crore, would be 2.9 km in length from Vaanavil showroom in Teynampet to the junction of CIT Nagar First Main Road near Saidapet. The four-lane flyovers would require minimal land acquisition.
