Woman dies in accident

A woman died and 25 people were injured in an accident involving three State Transport Corporation buses on the Chengalpattu by-pass road on Thursday night.

According to the police, the accident took place around 8. 30 p.m. on the by-pass road near the Iyyappan temple when the driver of Nagapattinam-bound bus lost control of the vehicle after hitting a Tiruchi-bound bus proceeding in the same direction. The vehicle jumped the median and plunged into a roadside ditch on the other side. In the impact, a 35-year-old woman occupying the single seat near the engine died. Around 25 persons, including the crew, sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a third STC bus proceeding to Tiruchi from Chennai came to a halt after colliding with the Tiruchi-bound bus.
