Commuters around Thiruninravur will face a daunting task to reach the station as a wall is being built that will completely block access to the station. Senior citizens will be affected as the foot overbridge does not have any link to the railway station, commuters complain.

S. Murugaian, secretary, Thiruninravur Rail Passengers Welfare Association, said the foot overbridge was located far away and also very steep, making it difficult for the elderly to climb. Under such circumstances, the only easy access was the pathway leading to the railway station. The pathway to the bridge is covered with vegetation and has poor illumination. This access is now being blocked with the construction of a wall, commuters said.

T. Sadagopan of Pattabhiram said several thousand commuters used the pathway to reach the other side of the railway station and blocking it would only increase problems. He wondered why the railway authorities did not take steps to create a subway, which they had been demanding for several years, before closing the access. Commuters said the location of the ticket counter on the third platform would give a tough time for passengers who would have to board a train at the first or second platform.

C. Anandan, member of the association, said the problems were presented to the Divisional Railway Manager when he visited the railway station on July 16.
