: The national motorsports federation has said that it is monitoring the reigning national car racing champion Vikash Anand’s (drunken driving) case and would take appropriate action if necessary. Speaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, Zayn Khan, President of FMSCI (Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India) said the body had indefinitely suspended Vikash's competition licence subject to legal inquiry.
“We do not encourage rash or drunken driving on roads. We want our boys to drive responsibly and set an example to others. My heart goes out for the victim who lost his life. We are keenly following the case,” Mr. Khan said.
Vicky Chandhok, Vice-President of Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC), said since he did not have all the facts of the case, he could not comment. But he added that racers should show their skills on the track and not on roads.
Vikash made a strong comeback after a gap of nearly two years by winning the National MRF Formula 1600 category title in August this year. In the fifth and final round of the National championship, Vikash won a ‘double’ (two races) to bag the crown and also a ticket to the Mazda Road to Indy scheduled in March 2017.
