Underpass at Kathipara in a sorry state

It is ridden with potholes; motorcyclists face the problem of skidding on this section

The underpass at the Kathipara Grade Separator has to be re-laid. Its surface is uneven and ridden with potholes.

There is a steady flow of traffic through this facility as it connects New Street and Grand Southern Trunk Road in Alandur. Motorists bound for Porur, Vadapalani, Koyambedu and Anna Nagar also use this underpass.

“Since the construction of the underpass, the road has not been re-laid. Incidences of motorcyclists skidding on the stretch are frequent. Motorists don’t bother to slow down and drive at a breakneck speed through the underpass. When it rains, it gets worse,” says S. Srinivasan, a commuter. Going by the surface of the facility, it is clear that it has experienced many cave-ins. The underpass leading to Vadapalani is in a smiliar state.Bumpers of cars get damaged, complain commuters. When contacted, the State Highways Department officials promised to do the needful at the earliest.
