Two men died, while another was rescued when a godown collapsed on Malaya Perumal Street in Kothawal Chavadi market on Sunday Night.

Kumar (50) and Netaji Subhash (25) were trapped under the rubble but did not survive the accident.

K. Venugopal, station fire officer, High Court, said the control room got a call at 9.10 p.m. Nearby fire stations were alerted.

Four emergency rescue tender vehicles from High Court, Vepery, Egmore and Washermenpet fire stations went to the spot.

A team of firemen managed to rescue Raji from underneath the rubble.

He was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, and is said to be out of danger.

The cause of the godown collapse is yet to be established. Mr. Venugopal said the building had just a ground floor.
