Vehicular traffic through the Anna Arch will resume next week. The scaffoldings on both sides have been removed as painting work has been completed. The Highways Department managed to complete the work on one arch last weekend even while allowing traffic through the other.

The department Avenue, will remove the site office and other material in a few days. The repair and restoration works were completed within a span of two months. A total of Rs. 64 lakh was spent on work on the twin arches.

The department will spend around Rs. 50 lakh on payment to the crane that held the arch for over a month. The crane was initially engaged to help in the demolition but later held up the arch for over 40 days.

After the completion of works, the maintenance of the arch would be handed over to the Chennai Corporation.
