“There is adequate demand for engineers”

Even while there are questions whether India can absorb all engineers it produces each year, if one takes the global scenario into account, there is adequate demand for science and technology graduates, said T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, here on Monday.

Speaking at the graduation day of the Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), Dr. Ramasami said Indian students had a special advantage because of their English speaking capabilities and ability to absorb IT tools.

Call to improve management skills

He also called on the graduands to improve their management and teamwork skills.

A.C. Muthiah, chairman – governing council, SVCE, recalled the growth of the institution over the last 25 years.

He said competition was the order of the day and asked the students to develop soft skills. R. Ramachandran, principal, SVCE, read the activity report of the college.

He said SVCE had sponsored students and faculty to international conferences.

The faculty had presented 52 papers in international and 41 papers in national conferences. Students had presented seven papers in international conferences and 18 papers in national conferences, he said.
