K. Shanthi, 56, swears by the trite old but still popular tenet — ‘Work is worship’.

She and her husband Krishnamoorthy, 66, have won many hearts by the way they run their shop.

These residents of Dhamodharapuram in Adyar are owners of Ammavin Kaimanam.

The small snack shop, located at Lakshmipuram in Thiruvanmiyur, is famous for its thenga manga sundal , hot vadais and mormolagas .

The couple prepare these items at home and bring them to the shop every evening.

Initially, the couple used to sell sundal near temples during festivals. For the last six years, they have been operating from a shop of their own. Now, they have a wide customer base.

“The vadais they sell are soft and fresh. I am reminded of my home when I eat here,” says Nagarajan, a regular customer at Ammavin Kaimanam.

Instead of spending time before the television, the couple say, they feel more engaged working at the shop and also interacting with customers.

“My children are working. I take care of my grandchildren. So, I open the shop only after 4 p.m. Along with our grandchildren, we prepare whatever is needed for the shop,” says Shanthi, who is a mother of three.

The couple can be reached at 9841322456, 7401262898
