Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy escaped unhurt after an SUV collided with his convoy on Sunday night in the city.
The driver of the pilot vehicle of the convoy and a security personnel were injured in the incident which took place around 9.30 p.m. on Santhome High Road.
Mr. Rangaswamy told The Hindu that he was safe and was returning to Puducherry by another car. He said he sat inside his car for some time till another car from Pondicherry house in K.K. Nagar arrived at the spot. He was returning to Puducherry after attending a wedding reception in Egmore. The wheel of the escort vehicle was also damaged.
According to the police, an SUV coming from East Coast Road towards Triplicane, collided with the pilot vehicle near Kuil Thottam and then against the CM’s car, damaging a tyre and a door of the CM’s vehicle.
After the collision, the SUV screeched to a halt near the Santhome Higher Secondary School, police said. The bonnet of the SUV and the pilot vehicle also sustained damages. The driver of the SUV has been detained by the police for investigation. The driver of the pilot vehicle Venkatesan, and the security personnel Selvam sustained injuries, the police said. Traffic was disrupted for sometime on the busy road.
