Former Director-General of Police K. Ramanujam was sworn in as State Chief Information Commissioner on Sunday.

Along with him, R. Dakshinamurthy and G. Murugan were sworn in State Information Commissioners by Governor K. Rosaiah on Sunday at a function at the Raj Bhavan.

After serving as DGP, Mr. Ramanujam served as an advisor to the government. Mr. Dakshinamurthy had served as the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences-I) at the time of retirement, say official sources. He heard Income Tax cases against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her close associate Sasikala for non-filing of returns. After accepting the compounding fee and other charges totally nearly Rs 2 crore by the accused, the IT department filed a petition withdrawing the criminal proceedings in January 2015. It was Mr. Dakshinamurthy who dismissed the cases as withdrawn.

Mr. Murugan, a lawyer by profession, is a functionary of the AIADMK’s SC/ST wing. He contested unsuccessfully in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, party sources said.

At the same function, M.S.M. Anandan was sworn in Minister for Forests.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai, Advisor to government Sheela Balakrishnan and Chief Secretary K. Gnanadesikan were among those who were present.
