The 7th annual Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair will be held for a week at Agurchand Manmull Jain College, Meenambakkam, from Tuesday.
More than 300 organisations will be taking part in the fair, up from the 218 participants in last year’s event that was held in Tiruvanmiyur in June. Announcing this at a press meet, organisers said 19 principal sponsors had paid Rs. 12 lakh each for the event, for which close to Rs. 2 crore will be spent.
A footfall of 12 lakh is expected this year, as against 9 lakh last year, R. Rajalakshmi, vice-chairperson of the organising committee said.
The fairs since 2009 have been focussing on protecting forests and wildlife, fostering respect for women and girl children, instilling patriotism, reverence for parents and teachers etc.
Vaidhya Subramaniam, dean Sastra University, said endowment boards from the State governments of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh will be taking part, in addition to Archaeological Survey of India.
P. Suresh, vice-chairperson of the committee, said the participating organisations had done extensive work in the areas of education, yoga, social service, health and sanitation, helping disadvantaged groups, arts and temple protection.
