A physical education teacher of a private school in Sembakkam was arrested for assaulting a Class 4 student on Tuesday.

The boy allegedly suffered multiple fractures to his hand.

The teacher, Manikandan was arrested based on a complaint filed by the 10-year-old boy’s parents.

According to police, the boy was admitted to a private hospital on July 16, after the school authorities informed his parents — Sudhakar and Aadhilakshmi — that he had fallen down while playing during the games hour and suffered an injury.

However, the hospital authorities raised questions about the boy’s injuries being caused by a fall.

The parents were shocked when during the enquiry they found that the boy had suffered multiple fractures to his hand after the physical education teacher assaulted him.

The parents immediately filed a complaint with the Chitlapakkam Police Station who arrested Manikandan.

Police are holding further investigations.
