The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered notice to actor Rajinikanth and others on a plea by Sukra Films, which sought to restrain the release of the actor’s film Kabali on July 22 until a sum of Rs. 89 lakh was paid to the company against the alleged dues over the distribution of the superstar’s previous film Linga in Coimbatore region.
When the case filed by Sukra Films represented by its partner R. Mahaprabhu of Koyambedu, came up for hearing at the Madras High Court on Wednesday, Justice M.M. Sundresh ordered notice and private notice to all respondents, including Rajinikanth and posted the matter for Thursday.
The petitioner claimed the company had obtained the distribution rights of Rajinikanth-starrer Linga which was released on December 12, 2014 through Vendhar Movies, which had bought the rights from EROS International.
Heavy loss
The petitioner claimed that Linga performed very poorly in box office which resulted in financial loss to the tune of Rs. 7.45 crore to Sukra Films, in respect of Coimbatore distribution.
