Anbumani refutes Vijayakant's charges

January 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated February 01, 2016 05:04 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, responding to a statement issued by DMDK president and the Leader of the Opposition, Vijayakant, which insinuated that he had, when heading the Ministry, provided clearance to the SVS Naturopathy and Yoga Medical College, categorically asserted he had nothing to do with the process.

Responding to Mr. Vijayakant's statement, Dr. Anbumani while referring to the college, where three students were found dead near its campus in Villupuram recently, claimed the department of AYUSH, which deals with Indian System of Medicine, was never handled by him.

Dr. Anbumani said the accusation from the DMDK president stemmed from an utter lack of understanding of how the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare functioned.

“I did not handle the Indian System of Medicine. The entire department of AYUSH came under my colleague and Minister of State Panabaka Lakshmi. I don't even know when this college was given permission,” he said.

Mr. Vijayakant also slammed the State government for not acting quickly in the matter despite protests by the students. He demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
