The 12 edition of the Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival will have a melange of events showcasing the traditions of the locality.

The four-day festival, to be celebrated from January 9 to 12, will have open kutcheris, kolam contests, street food stalls, heritage walks, chess competitions and arts and handicrafts exhibitions.

At a press meet on Friday, T.T. Srinivasaraghavan, managing director, Sundaram Finance Ltd., said the event has always focussed on young talent and in showcasing the arts and crafts of the people.

Vincent D’Souza, director of the festival, said this year, Yakshagana, a traditional dance-drama group from Karnataka, will perform on the eastern side of the temple, and an exhibition on ‘100 years of Indian cinema’ will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

To promote the use of eco-friendly bags, the organisers will distribute 10,000 cloth bags to visitors at the festival.
