In a shocking incident on Poonamallee High Road in Nerkundram on Sunday evening, a 28-year-old motorcyclist died after his throat was slit by a stray manja thread from a snapped kite.

Maduravoyal police sources identified the deceased as Raj Kumar, owner of a catering service venture and resident of Naduvankarai, Arumbakkam.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. when Kumar was riding his two-wheeler from Koyambedu to Vanagaram to meet someone on a business deal.

Shortly after he rode past the Maduravoyal police station, his neck got caught in a manja thread running across the road. He fell down from his motorcycle instantly. While passers by tried their best to help they could not save Raj Kumar, who was bleeding excessively, according to an investigating officer. “Bystanders and other motorists on the road rushed to his aid but he was profusely bleeding from the cut injury he suffered on his neck,” he said.

An ambulance of the 108 service was called to the spot immediately, but the man died just as he was being shifted into the vehicle, police sources said.

Raj Kumar's body was taken to the Government Kilpauk Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Maduravoyal police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating, police sources added.
