A man was arrested for attempting to smuggle 4 kg of gold worth over ₹1 crore at the Chennai airport on Saturday. The accused, Abdul Jabbar Haja Ibrahim Manickar, who arrived from Singapore, had wrapped the gold bars in brown adhesive tapes.

Based on a tip-off, officials checked his two hand and three checked-in baggage and found four gold bars. He was arrested at the exit gate.

In an another case, three persons were detained for carrying 325 gm of gold worth ₹9.5 lakh on Thursday. Karemulla Cheppali, who arrived by Kuwait Airways, had concealed nine pieces of gold in two packets of dates.

Nagoorqni Samaudin, Ayubkhan and Murugesan who had to go to Singapore and Myanmar were detained for carrying foreign currency worth ₹12 lakh in the departure hall of the airport.
