In response to the report, “No action taken on Ennore creek encroachments” published on November 1, 2017, the Kamarajar Port Ltd. has clarified the conditions stipulated by the Tamil Nadu government’s Department of Environment and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests: “Dredged materials should be dumped on the landward side and should not be dumped into the sea (CRZ-IV), intertidal area (CRZ-1B) of Buckingham canal and also in the salt pan areas as the salt pan areas are declared as CRZ-1B (inter tidal zone) as per approved Coastal Zone Management Plan of Tamil Nadu.”

In another letter, the MOEF has said, “The dredged material shall be reused for low level rising whenever possible and excess shall be dumped into sea at the designated dumping areas identified based on mathematical model studies.”
