Day one of the 14th edition of ‘Cerebration’, the annual corporate quiz conducted by The Hindu Business Line , on Thursday, saw tough questions that left many of the competitors stumped.

Following the first round in Chennai, the quiz will be held in cities across India, including Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad. The national finals will be held in Mumbai on March 30.

On Thursday, quizmaster Lloyd Saldanha began with a preliminary round of 25 questions that tested the participants’ knowledge of the business world, marketing and media. There were logos and famous faces to be identified.

Siddarth M., a competitor in the preliminary round, said, “It was tough. I was guessing my way through.”

Six teams of two went on to the main rounds, racing to answer the questions first and win ten points for their teams.

The rounds ended with tie-breaker questions for two teams — Infosys Mahindra City and Infosys Sholinganallur — that vied for the second place. Infosys Mahindra City won and Infosys Sholinganallur was the second runner-up.

The team from IIT-Madras, comprising Kavin C. and Prateek V., clinched the title. K. Ravichandran, senior deputy-general manager of events, The Hindu , gave out the prizes.

Though the competition was tough, the contestants thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I participate in every quiz, everywhere, every time. It has been my passion since I was a child,” said Janaki K., a participant.
