AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Thursday clarified that she was not on Twitter and disowned tweets sent out through the social networking and micro-blogging website.

“I would like to clarify that I am not on Twitter and as such the tweeting purportedly done in my name is by an imposter and impersonator,” she said in a statement.

Stating that she was initiating criminal action through the Police Cybercrime Department, she requested her friends, followers, party cadre and political colleagues not to be misled by the tweets attributed to her.

A couple of hours after Ms. Jayalalithaa issued the statement, the page in her name with a small portrait on Twitter was disenabled.

According to the page, the account had 656 followers and there were 769 tweets. The page claimed: “This is a parody. Not real.”
