The Madras High Court on Wednesday cautioned advertisers, advertising agencies and hoardingmakers to come with clean hands or face harsh order from the court in connection with a public interest litigation petition seeking proactive action to curb unauthorised hoardings in Chennai and Kancheepuram districts.

During a recent hearing, the First Bench of Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh issued bailable warrants to 42 persons, including advertising agencies, who failed to appear in the court when the plea came up for hearing.

On Wednesday, the authorities informed the Bench that the warrants have been executed and all parties were present with their counsel.

Recording their appearance the Bench said, “It is agreed that all these parties will appear before the respective District Collector or his delegate on May 25, with a list of their claims indicating which of the hoardings they had installed are in existence and which of them are licensed or otherwise so that a proper scrutiny can take place.”

Status report

The District Collector would then give different dates to examine the papers and submit a status report at least a week before the next hearing as to what is the position now, the Bench added.

The Bench then posted the PIL petition to July 27 for further hearing.
