Members of the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) have announced an indefinite strike from September 7.

They had been demanding the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations and had also sought that the old pension scheme be brought back.

They also demanded that the contributory pension scheme for employees be scrapped and had sought a monthly payment of 20% of the incremental basic and grade pay as an interim relief.

P. Elangovan, State Coordinator of the JACCTO-GEO, said, the members would hold demonstrations at the taluk headquarters on the first day of the strike.

“On September 8, there will be demonstrations across all district headquarters. On September 11, a high committee meeting will be convened in Chennai and we will take a call on how to proceed with the indefinite strike if the government did not respond to our our demands ,” he added.

Mr. Elangovan said the striking teachers would keep away from schools.
