The Madras High Court has granted a third opportunity to the Director-General of Police to file a detailed report with regard to a series of queries raised by it relating to crimes committed in connection with real estate business in the State.
Posting the matter for April 9, it directed a police Inspector attached to the District Crime Branch, Coimbatore city, to appear on the next hearing date.
On October 20 last year, Justice N.Kirubakaran ordered the transfer of a case pertaining to the alleged murder of K.Jamal Mohamed in a real estate transaction to the CBI. In the order, he asked the State government to answer various questions.
The questions were: how many crimes had been committed in connection with real estate transactions in the last 10 years; how many murders and kidnappings had been committed in relation to the business; how many cases of land grabbing and forging of land documents had been registered; whether ‘katta-panchayat’ groups were involved in land grabbing and whether a mechanism was not necessary to regulate real estate transaction.
When the matter came up earlier, the DGP filed a report, but the court was not satisfied with the details furnished. It directed the official to file a detailed report. On Thursday, another affidavit was filed. Mr.Justice Kirubakaran said more particulars were required. Hence, he granted one more opportunity to the police official to file a report.
