City residents looking to exchange old and soiled currency notes can visit a number of bank branches on Saturday and hand them over to staff in return for coins.
Nearly 195 branches of 32 commercial banks across the city and suburbs will organise camps to withdraw soiled notes and distribute coins on Saturday. Residents may exchange mutilated currency notes particularly of lower denominations such as Rs. 50 and Rs. 10 from the branches.
According to sources, Reserve Bank of India, Chennai region, has disbursed coins worth over Rs.10.79 crore to the banks for the special camps. The focus is more on mopping up old notes of lower denominations as their lifespan is less than those of Rs. 100 and Rs. 500.

Some of the banks that will hold the camps include State Bank of India (Anna Salai, T. Nagar, Nandanam and Saidapet), Canara Bank (T. Nagar, Nanganallur, Chinmaya Nagar, Vadapalani, Broadway and Koyambedu), Indian Overseas Bank (Cathedral Road, Tambaram, Medavakkam, Mylapore, Besant Nagar, Teynampet and Adambakkam) and HDFC Bank (Avadi, Anna Nagar, Pattabiram, Villivakkam, Perungulathur, Madipakkam).
