DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Saturday welcomed a Gujarat High Court order quashing an ordinance to provide 10 per cent quota for the economically backward among upper castes in education and admission.
“The DMK never accepted economic criteria for reservation as it strongly believes that it should be provided only to socially and educationally backward sections of society,” Mr. Karunanidhi said in a statement.
Reacting to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s description that the new Assembly building constructed during the DMK rule looked like a “sinking ship,” he wondered why the Chief Minister decided to run a super-specialty hospital on the premises. “The ship may recover by itself and begin its journey,” he said.
