In a clear case of murder for gain, a 32-year-old dentist was strangled to death at her clinic at West Mogappair on Wednesday afternoon. Her gold jewellery was stolen.
The victim, Sangeetha, lived on Karnan street in West Mogappair, and worked at her clinic 500 metres away in Vellalar street.
She usually went home for lunch around 1 p.m. and returned to the clinic by 3 p.m. However, when her husband Shankar, a software engineer, working at a firm in T. Nagar called his wife, he was unable to reach her on her mobile phone.
Relative finds body
He then called home only to learn from a relative at his residence that his wife had not returned from work for lunch.
When the relative went to the clinic, the victim was found in a chair bleeding. Her dupatta had been used to strangle her. The victim was rushed to hospital around 3.30 p.m. only to be declared dead.
Nolambur police, who are investigating the case, say that it may have been a person in the guise of a patient who killed her. Police said that 12 sovereigns of gold, including a thali, were missing.
