Counterfeit currency seized

The Crime Branch CID of the State police on Thursday apprehended three persons who were in possession of counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs. 9.99 lakh.

According to police, on a tip-off that some persons were planning to smuggle counterfeit currency from West Bengal by train, a special team was deployed at railway stations. Three persons who arrived by Guwahati-Bangalore Express at Korukkupet were intercepted. The trio — Abdul Ismail (25) of Mannadi, Rizwan Sheriff (28) of Chepauk and Mohammed Rafiq (26) of Perungulathur were in possession of counterfeit currency of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 denomination.
