CM announces cash incentives for sportspersons

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday announced cash incentives totalling to ₹16 lakh for three sportspersons from the State, who won medals in the recent swimming events at 9th Asian Group championships 2017 in Uzbekistan.

In a statement, Mr. Palaniswami lauded P. Vikas, V. Leonard and S. Dhanush for winning the medals.

Vikas won four medals including one gold, while Leonard bagged one gold medal, he noted.

Dhanush bagged a silver medal, the Chief Minister said and expressed joy over the swimmers bringing laurels to Tamil Nadu. He announced a cash incentive of ₹9.5 lakh for Vikas, ₹4 lakh for Leonard and ₹2.5 lakh for Dhanush.

Mr. Palaniswami also announced a total of ₹2.4 lakh as incentive to the respective coaches of the three sportspersons.

The Chief Minister presented cash incentives totalling ₹90.85 lakh to 20 sportspersons and 17 coaches for winning medals at the 35th national games held in Kerala in 2015. The sportspersons were presented with cash rewards totalling ₹79 lakh and their coaches were presented incentives of ₹11.85 lakh.
