‘Adaptation is an essential part of evolution’ is the central idea of this year’s MetroPlus Theatre Fest.
Launching the event at The Park, the editor of Business Line, Mukund Padmanabhan spoke about how this year’s festival would feature plays that are adaptations in some form or the other, ranging from the ‘Circus’, inspired by a Charlie Chaplin film, to a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Speaking at the event, CEO Arun Anant pointed out there was always plenty of theatre happening in the country — from the Parliament to the corporate world to IPL. “We ensure that theatre remains theatre,” he said, adding, “A good society is one in which every field of art is nurtured.”
The festival runs from August 10 and will feature six plays. Perch (Chennai) and Rafiki (Bangalore) showcase ‘How to Skin a Giraffe’.
