Members of the Indian Medical Association, Tamil Nadu State branch, and around 150 nurses staged a protest near the government guest house in Chepauk on Tuesday.
They were protesting against the Vijay TV show ‘Neeya Naana’, an episode of which criticised the medical community.
“Some of the show host’s opinions were absurd. For instance, his comments on master health checks, and ultrasounds in pregnancy,” said L.P. Thangavelu, immediate past-president of the association in TN. The show host also alleged there was a nexus between doctors, labs and scan centres, the doctors said.
“It is a TV show and many people watch it. The host is not qualified to make the kinds of remarks he did, nor should he defame the entire medical community,” Dr. Thangavelu said.
The association has demanded an apology from Vijay TV and failing that, may take them to court, he said.
