Child marriage averted in Arumbakkam

The Arumbakkam Police prevented a child marriage in the locality, based on an SMS alert received at the police control room on Thursday.

The girl, a resident of NSK Nagar in Arumbakkam, sent the SMS to the police control room saying she was being forced into marriage by her parents.

Police personnel rushed to the spot and on investigation found the marriage was scheduled to be held at a temple in Thiruverkkadu on Sunday.

Girl sent to shelter, police promise help

The police rescued the girl and sent her to a shelter run by the Indian Council of Child Welfare, Shenoy Nagar. The police also promised to help her continue her studies.
