It was just another Sunday for students who had written the class X CBSE exam in the city. Until they found out in the evening that the results had been declared. And not just students, but schools too were caught unawares, as they were anticipating their scores after the class XII results, which are expected on Monday.
However, it was not just Chennai region, but also city schools, who recorded several A1 and A2 grades. K. Mohana, principal, Modern Senior Secondary School said that of the 175 students in the school, 52 students had scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10, which is the highest.
Ajit Prasad Jain, senior principal, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, said that 30 of the 252 students of the school had got a CGPA of 10. “Last year, only 16 students got an A1 grade,” he said. At Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram, 21 students secured a CGPA of 10, said principal Chandrika Prasad.
Adithya Padmanabhan, one such student of Bhavans Rajaji, said that CCE has been of significant help.
“This does not take away from the fact that you have to work as hard as before for the Board’s written paper,” he said. Twins K.M. Gokul Krishna and K.M. Vamsi Krishna, who scored 8.6 and 8.2 respectively, went online to check their results after they saw a news flash in one of the channels. “We are happy with our results and plan to take up the pure science group in class XI,” said Vamsi.
A principal of a CBSE school said that they were still in the process of consolidating the results on Sunday night. “We were keenly waiting for the class XII results on Monday, when we found out that the class X results were out. We will get a clearer picture of the school’s performance by Monday,” she said.
D.T. Sudarshan Rao, regional officer, CBSE Chennai Region, said that the early declaration of results was to help CBSE students catch up with the class XI admission schedules in some states. Those who want to apply for verification of marks can apply within 21 days of the declaration of results. Candidates who want to apply for Improvement of Performance (EIOP) can apply in the prescribed form through the school before 21 June.
The exam is tentatively scheduled for July 16.
