Work proceeded despite warnings from officials.

Officials from the enforcement wing of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Friday sealed and locked an eight-storey commercial building on a service road off the arterial GST Road in Chromepet.

Sources confirmed that the norms regarding planning permissions were not followed despite two inspections by CMDA officials and their warnings.

The builder went ahead with the work, sources said.

The CMDA issued notices to the owner to stop the unauthorised construction in August.

As the latter did not comply with the notices, they placed the building under lock and seal as per the provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act.

Officials pasted notices on the walls of the building detailing the circumstances under which the building was sealed.
