The city police on Monday arrested Shahjahan (47), owner of the apartment complex in connection with the death of M. Sriram, a 5-year-old boy in Clive Battery on Sunday evening. The boy died after a iron gate fell on him while he was playing.

Policemen of North Beach police station said they arrested him around 3.30 pm on Monday.

The iron gate was installed on the apartment complex owned by Shahjahan and there are about 20 homes in the complex.

Shahjahan, police said, told them that the gate was damaged after a truck rammed into it two days ago and as it was a weekend, he was unable to get it repaired. A case under death caused due to negligence has been registered and Shahjahan was remanded in judicial custody, police added.
