The DVD/Blu Ray of the carnatic concert movie titled One featuring musician T.M. Krishna was launched in the city on Friday.
The film, which was screened across the United States, and in the theatres of Chennai during the 2014 December music season, has now been made available in DVD/ Blu Ray format for home viewing and to reach a larger audience.
The 90-minute film, directed by Jayendra Panchapakesan, has been shot in picturesque locations, including the hills and forests of Nilgiris. It is a blend of soothing ragas and pure voices of nature. N. Ram, chairman, Kasturi & Sons, who released the DVD/ Blu Ray, said, “It is a concert film not in the conventional sense. It is serious music with a different experience. It has no accompanying instruments and the locations have been carefully selected.” Mr. Ram said the first concert film Margazhi Ragam (2008) was extraordinary and did well, and hoped this film did well too.
Mentioning some of the interviews provided by Mr. Krishna about the film, Mr. Ram said, “The willingness to experiment, to be bold and radical and staying very much within the contours of the classical tradition is, I think, the most interesting experience”.
Mr. Krishna said the audience would hear the sounds that the crew heard. “There was no editing or mixing, some cutting was done for the sake of time. There were seven cameras, but none of them disturbed me,” he said.
Mr. Panchapeksasan said the film was shot in two days. “The project came up as I wanted the audience to enjoy the music without any disturbance. This does not happen in concert halls,” he said.
C. Srikanth Chandrasekar of Aghal Films that produced the film, said it was close to his heart.
