Two fourteen year olds, Aswin Abraham and Pranamya Rao did themselves proud by winning five medals at the recently held Asian Roller Skating Championship held at Hefei City in China. Both won two silver medals each while Pranamya garnered a bronze too in dance.

Considering this was their first International appearance, it was a good show by the two children who are regular winners in various domestic meets. At Hefei the two participated in the open category where very senior skaters from other countries had taken part. The championship, held every alternate year, saw participants from Bangladesh, Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Iran, Macau, Pakistan, Taipei apart from host China and India. In all, the Indian team won 13 medals, including three gold.

Aswin is a tenth standard student of SBOA CBSE school while Pranamya, also in the tenth standard, studies in Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram. The two are part of the Champions development scheme of the SDAT. Aaron Saldanha trains them in artistic skating, Deepak Muthukrishnan takes care of dance training while Asian Games medallist Anup Kumar Yama is their mentor.

Congrats Aswin and Pranamya.
