The second edition of the ‘Joy of Giving Week' from September 26 to October 2 will have a long line-up of charity events, including music and entertainment programmes, and food festivals.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Aarthi Madhusudan, a volunteer organiser of the campaign, said Chennai participated in a notable way last year by organising interesting programmes across the city.

Vocalist and Samudhaaya Foundation Managing Trustee Sudha Raghunathan said she would organise a lecture demonstration of Carnatic music for 10 Chennai Schools. “This is an attempt to introduce classical music to these children who never had any exposure to that before,” she said.

Auction of paintings

Art director and painter Thotta Tharani has offered to auction three of his paintings at an event to be organised by the Down's Syndrome Association of Tamil Nadu.

The proceeds would be given to a charity organisation. “It is a week to remind us of what we have and what we need to share with others,” he said.

L.V. Prasad Film and TV Academy Director K. Hariharan said students of the Academy would train 20 children of Chennai Schools in making of short films.

Isha Homes volunteers would visit five Chennai Schools in areas around Adyar and Madipakkam and spruce up the campuses by painting the walls and improving the sanitary conditions, said its Managing Director Suresh Krishnan.

High-end charity dinner

Courtyard Marriott would raise money for the Marriott Home for underprivileged children through a high-end charity dinner on October 1. The hotel would sponsor food for 2,500 special children at a programme to be organised by Down's Syndrome Association, said Courtyard Marriott Managing Director Karan Berry.

This apart, a slew of events such as seva mela and food fest at Valluvar Kottam, Battle of Buffet, awareness camps and distribution of free provisions are being planned as part of the ‘Joy of Giving Week'.

Last year, the campaign across 40 cities in the country saw 300 events being organised and Rs.10 crore mobilised for charity.
