4 fishermen get aid of Rs. 2 lakh

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has announced a solatium of Rs. Two lakh each to four fishermen from Kanniyakumari district who were recently released from Iranian prisons.

Considering their economic condition , Ms. Jayalalithaa announced the solatium from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, an official release said.

The fishermen, all natives of Kadiyappattinam in Kanniyakumari district, were working in the UAE for a Dubai firm and had gone fishing near Ajman on February 6. They were arrested by Iranian authorities the following day on charges of straying into the Iranian waters.

Following the efforts of the State government through the Ministry of External Affairs, the four fishermen were released on April 30 .
