191 nominations filed on last day

A total of 387 candidates have filed nomination in 16 constituencies of the city. Of these, 191 nomination were filed on Saturday, the last day for filing of nomination.

Kolathur constituency, with 39 candidates, has the largest number of nomination. Egmore has the least - 13. The number of nomination filed in Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar is 34; Perambur-24; Villivakkam; 20; Thiru.Vi.Ka.Nagar-21; Royapuram-19; Harbour-25; Chepauk-Triplicane-19; Thousand Lights-28; Anna Nagar-20; Virugampakkam-20; Saidapet-27; Thiyagarayar Nagar- 25; Mylapore-32 and Velachery-20.

In Tiruvallur district, where there are 10 Assembly constituencies, a total of 189 candidates have filed nomination.

According to official sources, some of the candidates like the DMK nominee for Ambattur, B.Ranganathan, the DMDK candidate for Tiruttani, Arun Subramanian, have filed more than one nomination papers in their names.

While Ambattur topped the list of nomination with 27, it was followed by Tiruvallur and Avadi with 25 nomination each, Tiruttani had 24, Ponneri 22, Madhavaram and Tiruvottiyur 20 each, Madhuravoyal 18, Gummidipoondi 17 and Poonamallee 11.

Transgender

Meanwhile, a transgender, Dhanam (45) of Aravani Nagar, near Valathottam hamlet in Uthiramerur constituency coming under the Kancheepuram district, filed her nomination papers for the Uthiramerur seat on Saturday.
