Close on the heels of an Ashok Nagar police station head constable being caught here on Sunday while allegedly accepting a bribe from a woman to release her son, the Lokayukta sleuths took into custody a police sub-inspector attached to the Hulimavu police station on the charge of accepting a bribe to return the documents seized for investigation.
Sub-inspector Kantharaju has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and remanded in judicial custody.
Lokayukta officials said that the officer had received a compliant against Gurumurthy, who had taken an advance of Rs. 2 lakh from Abhishek Arjun Birje to sell his flat to the latter.
Mr. Birje, who had taken the original property documents from Mr. Gurumurthy, backed out of the deal and demanded the advance amount back.
When Mr. Gurumurthy refused stating that it was a breach of contract, Mr. Birje sought the help of Kantharaju who summoned Mr. Gurumurthy to settle the dispute.
Later, the sub-inspector started demanding Rs. 10,000 from Mr. Gurumurthy to settle the matter and refused to return the property documents.
Mr. Gurumurthy approached Lokayukta officials, who caught Kantharaju red-handed.
On Sunday, Lokayukta police arrested head constable M. Narasimha Murthy red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs. 20,000 from a woman to release her son from custody.
Narasimha Murthy detained a minor in connection with the investigation of a theft and kept him in illegal custody for two days without reporting it.
Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said that he would inquire into the incident and take action against officials found guilty.
