A woman was killed and her friend was injured when they were struck by lightning at Kyataganahalli Cross in Koratagere taluk of Tumakuru district on Saturday.
The police said that the deceased has been identified as Hanumakka, 50, from Boochanahalli in Koratagere taluk. Narasamma, who sustained injuries, is being treated in the Koratagere taluk government hospital.
The two women were working in the fields near Kyataganahalli Cross when it began raining. They took shelter under a tree but were struck by lightning at 2.30 p.m. A case has been registered in Kolala police station.
