A day after the Union government slashed budgets for healthcare, numerous people marched in the city on Sunday to create awareness on ‘Child Protection and Survival’. Among the walkers was eight-year-old Immaneuel, who, with her family, walked to pressure the Centre to increase the national health budget to three per cent, from the 1.86 per cent announced in the Union Budget.

Stating that more than 4,000 children die every day of preventable diseases in India, A. Nathan, Secretary, United Christian Forum Bengaluru, said: “I cannot help thinking of my counterparts who never got a chance to live beyond childhood.”
