An unidentified woman whisked away a new-born baby girl from the Vani Vilas Hospital about 13 hours after the delivery of the baby on Wednesday.

The police said that Rekha, along with her mother Heena Devi, residents of Babusapalya and native of Rajasthan, came to the hospital on July 12. She gave birth to a girl on July 13 morning.

According to the police, the hospital staff handed over the baby to Heena Devi at around 1 p.m., as they had to give some treatment to Rekha. Heena Devi was sitting with the baby for a while. When she wanted to go to the rest-room, she asked a woman to take care of the baby. When Heena returned, the unidentified woman and the baby were missing.

Heena raised an alarm, prompting the staff and other people in the ward to rush to her help. After several hours of search, Heena Devi approached the Victoria Hospital police and filed a complaint.

The police recovered the CCTV images and found that the woman was captured carrying the baby out of the ward. The police are trying to identify the woman.
