The Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) has announced the induction of new members to its board of directors.

According to a communiqué here on Friday, the new directors are Marcel Hunderbuehler, former chief executive officer of BIAL, and Hari Marar. While Harsha Raghavan will take on the role of managing director at BIAL, Hari Marar will be executive director and president at BIAL.

The reconstitution of the BIAL’s board of directors follows the acquisition of the residual 10% stake of GVK in BIAL by FIH Mauritius Investments Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fairfax India Holdings Corporation.

The communique added that the board, under the chairman, Subhash Chandra Khuntia, chief secretary, Government of Karnataka, will work towards the speedy implementation of crucial capacity-expansion projects. Mr. Hungerbuehler and Mr. Marar, who are both aviation experts, will spearhead the establishment of the Fairfax Centre of Aviation Excellence at the airport.

“The Kempegowda International Airport continues to see growth in passenger volumes – more than 20% at the close of 2017 fiscal. The construction of the second runway and terminal, and other associated projects are now a priority. We are now in a unique position to be able to ensure that we deliver to Bengaluru and its people an airport of which that they can truly be proud of,” said Mr. Marar.
