Vidya Varidhi International School at Huliyar in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district re-opened on Monday. It was closed last week after the death of three students and a watchman due to suspected food poisoning.
According to officials, the school reopened to help students prepare for the Standard X (CBSE) final examinations that will start later this month. A total 63 students will be appearing for the exams in the school, which is also an examination centre.
The final exams for students of other classes will start on March 15.
"Only the school has re-opened. The hostel remains closed,” said Gangesh, the tahsildar.
The deceased were housed in the hostel. The watchman was posted at the hostel.
The sole survivor of the alleged food poisoning incident, Sudarshan, was discharged from Tumakuru district government hospital on Sunday.
Protests continue
The parents of the deceased students and residents of Thimmanahalli staged a protest on Monday demanding speedy justice.
They wanted to speak to the president of the school, former BJP MLA Kiran Kumar.
Police had to intervene to calm the protesters.
